Indianapolis, Indiana] – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana (BBBSCI) is hosting Play for Kids’ Sake from May 5 – 12, presented by STAR Bank, to raise important funds to match kids (“Littles”) in Central Indiana with positive adult role models (“Bigs”) to empower them to reach full potential. Launching on Giving Tuesday Now, a global day of giving in response to the COVID-19 crisis, this virtual event will encourage supporters to make a donation of any size to Big Brothers Big Sisters and then play a game to connect with family, friends, and coworkers.
Participants are encouraged to register for the event by visiting the website at BeBigForKids.org/Play. Once registered, each participant will receive a schedule of online games and activities offered during the week; examples of various games to play; and exclusive coupons from local breweries and restaurants. Participants can also play any game of their choice – for example, a favorite board game with the family, a round of Twenty Questions over facetime with a grandparent, or virtual trivia with friends.
Pacers Gaming of Pacers Sports & Entertainment and the Indianapolis Colts are partnering with BBBSCI to support the fundraiser and connect virtually with some Littles in the program through special online gaming tournaments and video streams. BBBSCI is also offering bingo and daily trivia to participants throughout the week.
“We have adapted to continue supporting and encouraging our community’s young people through virtual mentoring. As we still have so many kids waiting for mentors and we are stretching to support youth and families in new ways, Play for Kids’ Sake is an important fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Darcey Palmer-Shultz, BBBSCI CEO, said.
“The funds raised will help us reach as many of our community’s great kids as possible. It’s an easy way to support our mission and give some extra purpose to something many are already doing: connecting with friends and family through a shared game or activity – whether at home or virtually.”
“Right now, many kids are disconnected from important adults and support, experiencing learning losses despite everyone’s best effort to continue educating during these unusual times, and experiencing the real-life implications of this pandemic. Now, more than ever, kids need mentors in their lives to support them, and we’re honored to provide those important relationships to more than 1,300 youth this year.”
“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana puts their mission into action every day,” Scott Bove, STAR Bank, SVP, Regional President, said. “The STAR team enjoyed participating last year, and we are proud to sponsor this virtual fundraising event this year. Now more than ever, it is critical to support organizations that are leading essential efforts to improve the well-being of kids and families throughout our state.”
