The Legacy Fund, a CICF affiliate, recently awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Central Indiana (BBBSCI) a grant in the amount of $15,000 to support one-to-one
mentoring for youth in Hamilton County.
In 2016-17, BBBSCI will
deepen our commitment to youth and community impact in Hamilton County by
continuing to serve at least 150 matches while further expanding our
collaboration with the Youth Assistance Program (YAP) to mentor youth at risk
of entering the juvenile justice system. BBBSCI will accomplish these
objectives through making at least 40 new Hamilton County matches and
continuing to serve the approximately 110 matches established in previous
Length – At least 75% of matches will last 12
months or longer.
Strength – Mentors will score 3.95 or higher
(out of 5) on the 3-month and 12-month Strength of Relationship survey.
Outcomes – After just one year in the program,
youth report improvement or maintenance of positive scores in the following areas:
Social Acceptance – 97%; Scholastic Competence – 94%; Educational Expectations
– 87%; Grades – 90%; Attitudes Toward Risky Behaviors – 93%; Parental Trust –
93%; and Presence of a Special Adult – 94%.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana will
serve 1,140 youth this year by providing them strong and enduring,
professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships. BBBSCI partners with parents,
guardians, volunteers, schools, donors, and others in the community to be accountable
for helping youth in our program achieve higher aspirations, greater
confidence, educational success, and avoidance of risky behaviors.
