On Saturday, February 7, 28 Bigs and Littles gathered at Starbucks locations around Central Indiana. Their purpose on this chilly afternoon? To craft hand-made cards for children at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent. In total, over 250 cards were made with messages ranging from “You are special and loved,” “Look for the rainbow and at the end, you will find your pot of gold,” to “Just be you and you will make it!” By participating in this community service activity with their Bigs, Littles learned how simple it was to help spread a little cheer, while also spending time with other matches in the program. The store managers provided Starbucks beverages for all participants and many Littles were excited about the possibility of working at Starbucks someday!
Check out a video recap of the activity and some thoughts from participants below.
“I am so glad Starbucks hosts this annual event for us! This is my third year participating and our group always has a lot of fun decorating cards for children and just hanging out, chatting with each other.” – Kelly Wallace, Big Sister
“The Starbucks staff are always amazing! The matches always learn about the Starbucks operation and the importance of giving back. I can’t wait to come back year after year for this activity.” – Annette Perry, BBBSCI Match Support Team Leader
Big Brothers Big Sisters is extremely grateful and proud of our partnership with Starbucks. Starbucks first partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters to celebrate National Mentoring Month in January 2009. In that first year and ever since, all current Bigs in Central Indiana, and throughout the state, receive a free, tall Starbucks drink of their choice each Friday in January in recognition of their service as mentors all year long. Additionally, Starbucks hosts this community service match activity year after year to engage Littles in philanthropy.
Thank you, Starbucks!
