Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana Receives Top National Awards for Agency Performance, Community Programming, and Board Leadership

L-R: Rudy J. Baldoni, BBBS National Board of Directors Chair; Darcey Palmer-Shultz, BBBSCI CEO; and Pam Iorio, BBBS of America President & CEO.

Indianapolis – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana (BBBSCI) is proud to announce the agency has received three top honors from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and the Big Brothers Big Sisters Nationwide Leadership Council. BBBSCI is honored to be named as a Gold Standard Award and a Quality Award agency, as well as receive the Board of the Year distinction. The agency was recognized during the 2017 National Conference in San Diego in June.

The Gold Standard Award recognizes agencies that have increased their revenue by at least five percent and grown the number of matches, year over year. In the past year, BBBSCI has served 1,140 matches. Out of more than 300 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies, BBBSCI is one of only 16 agencies to receive the Gold Standard Award.

The Quality Award recognizes BBBSCI for its excellent community programming, particularly the agency’s efforts to increase and maintain a 12-month match retention rate to create more strong and enduring relationships with positive outcomes. Out of more than 300 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies, BBBSCI is 1 of 36 to receive the Quality Award.

The Board of the Year is a distinction for Boards who have guided staff and shaped programming for BBBSCI. As the Mid-Large Agency Board of the Year, BBBSCI has embraced a Board-led fundraising initiative, which enlists board members to give personally and raise funds from individuals and corporations.

“We’re really proud of these national recognitions,” Darcey Palmer-Shultz, BBBSCI Chief Executive Officer said. “We’ve worked so hard over the years on the strength and length of our mentoring relationships, and receiving the Quality Award for the third year in a row shows that work is paying off for kids in our community. We are also beginning to grow and reach more children, and the Gold Standard Award shows that we’re making progress on that front as well. We have more to do, but it means the world to us that we’re moving more kids off of our waiting list.  It’s also really exciting to have our wonderful Board recognized for their leadership and effort. We have the most dedicated Board, and they are fully invested in helping us accomplish more for our kids. We’re grateful for the opportunity to do the work we do for kids and families in Central Indiana, and it’s special to see that work recognized at a national level.”

“I am so proud of the members of our staff and board who work tirelessly to help kids in our community,” Susan Brock Williams, BBBSCI Board of Directors President, said. “Under Darcey Palmer-Shultz’s leadership, we have moved the needle on quality mentoring for boys and girls in Central Indiana. As we launch into a new strategic plan to serve more youth over the next five years, I am confident that we will only continue to be seen as a national leader.”
