Littles Take to the Skies on Saturday

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Experimental Aircraft Association Host Flight Activity for Matches


What:
On June 16, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana (BBBSCI) has partnered with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles to host a free activity for adult volunteers, (“Bigs”) and their mentees (“Littles), and the Littles’ families at the Greenwood Airport. The activity begins with an educational workshop about aviation and a hands-on experiment for the Littles. After the workshop, each Little will take a 15 minute in-air flight with a EAA Young Eagles Pilot.

“The “Littles Take Flight” event gives the Littles exposure to an industry that they might not otherwise have an opportunity to see up close, and the chance to ride in an airplane for the first time,” Scott Lanham, Big Brother and pilot, said. “This, combined with the chance to show them what careers are in the aviation field, makes this a unique and fun event. It is mutually beneficial in the sense that there is a massive pilot shortage in this country that is only getting worse and getting high school kids and younger onto an aviation path is critical to the industry.”
