Name: Julia Black
Title: Event Coordinator and Communications Assistant
Start Date: September 2019
My favorite memory from working at BBBSCI is … I think my favorite memory since starting at Big Brothers Big Sisters would be the Pack Away Hunger Service Project match activity that we hosted on a Saturday back in December. I love getting to attend so many activities with the matches and being able to interact with the matches. Completing a service project at the same time was icing on the cake!
What I love most about my job is … How fun and different it is every day! Since my position is directly related to creating match activities, I love how much I get to see the matches interacting and the mission of BBBSCI coming to life. I also love that I get to participate in many of the partner perks that we have available for the matches, like swimming with the dolphins at the Indianapolis Zoo! You just can’t beat that.
How has mentoring played a role in your life? I have always appreciated the mentors in my life because they take the time to focus on YOU, and it’s not that often that you find someone who is happy to just work on your own personal growth and development. Mentors have always been a blessing in my life and always let me know that I had someone in my corner, no matter what.
When I’m not at work, you can find me … Working out, listening to podcasts, exploring new restaurants around downtown Indy with my boyfriend, walking my dog, reading, cooking, and spending time with friends!
What is your favorite spot(s) in Indy? Probably my neighborhood! I live 2 minutes away from our office, around the corner from the amazing Goose the Market, and right next to the White River and the Fall Creek Bike Path. Our neighborhood is growing everyday and I am excited to see what it looks like in 2-3 years!
