Indianapolis Youth Commission Indianapolis Youth Commission

The City-County Council has established the Indianapolis Youth Commission to provide a vehicle for young people in our community to be more deeply engaged in helping our elected community representatives address the needs that it faces.

In the first year, we will select 8-10 youth from across the community to get the commission up and running, to develop its practices and procedures, and to set the foundation for further growth.  When the Commission is up to full scale, we will have 25 youth members—one from each council district. It is important to note that 60% of the commission members will be young people who are currently or formerly involved with juvenile justice, child welfare, foster care, or some other type of system of care in order that voices and concerns that are oftentimes overlooked or marginalized will be clearly represented.
