BBBSCI Class of 2021: Hsa Nay and Taylor

Match: Little Sister Hsa Nay and Big Sister Taylor Hensley
Match Date: September 27, 2017
High School: North Central High School

Little Sister Hsa Nay and Big Sister Taylor Hensley have been matched together for 3.5 years. Hsa Nay is looking forward to graduating high school this Spring and was accepted as a direct admit to the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI for Accounting. Hsa Nay is both nervous and excited to begin college in the Fall! Hsa and Taylor are going to miss being a part of our program.

Hsa is also the recipient of a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana Be Big Scholarship. This scholarship was made possible through funding from the Frank Davis Scholarship Fund, the Ivy Tech Foundation, and an anonymous donor. This scholarship can be used for room/board, textbooks, tuition, and other expenses incurred during their study.

When reflecting on her match relationship with her Big Sister, Hsa Nay shared, “Taylor, my big sister, is a very good listener. I feel comfortable talking to her about the most random things. I learned that she is very competitive, especially at bowling. That kind of determination and mindset has inspired me to do my best in whatever I am doing. While I was applying for college, I had many questions about the process and I’m glad that I had someone to talk to about college since my parents never really got any formal education. In addition, she always reaches out to ask me about how I am doing and always cheers me on. She also is very open-minded about what I am interested in. I have always wanted to learn how to swim and I am really grateful that she took the time to help me. In addition, she also took me out into a Korean restaurant that I really wanted to try. Although I think this is something outside of her comfort zone, she took me and tried their food. In addition, I have also learned to cook really delicious food with her. Through my relationship with Taylor, I have been able to build a better relationship with my younger sisters as well. I learned I need to be a good listener when my sister has things to talk about, spend time doing fun activities with them, and encourage and support them whenever they need help. I will use my experience in Big Brothers and Big sister to encourage and support another little girl or boy who may be needing guidance.”

Their Mentoring Relationship Specialist, Drew Neddo, shared that Hsa Nay and Taylor seem to have the type of friendship where it’s like they have known each other the entire time right from the beginning. Over the years they have enjoyed many things together such as cooking a variety of different foods together, going to the Yuletide Symphony, and just spending time together.

These two will miss being a part of our program, but we have no doubt that they will be friends for many years to come. Good luck at IUPUI, Hsa! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish.
