BRAYLEN: VOICE OF A CHANGEMAKER

May 13, 2021

Our names are Adam and Nicole Jasperson. We have had the joy of being a Big Couple to Braylen for two and a half years now. Bray can light up a room with his enthusiasm and passion. For example, Bray marvels at the vastness of the solar system and the mysteries of space. We went with him to the Butler Observatory and witnessed his intrigue. We can’t wait to see where his wonder of space and love of math and science takes him in the future!

My name is Braylen. I am 12 years old, and I am in the 6th grade. I like anything that has to do with space, RC cars, and anime. Anime is very cool and entertaining to me. I find it very calming. I also like to build things with Legos, take walks, go camping, and read. I really like the book series Last Kids on Earth and I just started the Harry Potter series and I really like that.

Being a kid in America right now is scary because kids are not safe from crime. At any moment, your life can change. But being a kid is also really fun because you don’t have to worry about bills. I think more adults should listen to what kids have to say because our opinion matters. When kids talk and have something to say, adults should listen to us and let us say what we need to.

When I graduate high school, I am one hundred million percent certain that I want to go to Purdue University to study aerospace engineering and become a professional astrophysicist working for NASA. When I was younger, I watched a lot of PBS Kids and I loved their show Ready, Jet, Go! and that is what introduced me to space exploration. I saw it and thought, ‘this is what I want to be.’ If I could do anything or go anywhere in the world, the first place I would pick to go is space. The second place is Japan, because of my love of anime. And finally, I would want to explore other planets and galaxies, like the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxies.

When I think about my future, I feel excited about having lots of fun in space; nervous for going to space; frustrated because I know my future involves a lot of complicated math; and also excited because I can solve math and engineering problems that will revolutionize generations to come.
