My Little Sis Rashia is 15 years old. We’ve been together for over 4 years. She’s a very special young lady. the perfect combination of smart, sensitive, sassy and absolutely hilarious. I’ve watched her grow from a shy 10-year-old into a confident high school girl who looks for opportunities to grow and excel scholastically and socially. I have no doubt that she will continue to thrive and leave her positive mark on our world. I feel very lucky to have her and her family in my life.

My name is Rashia, I am 15 years old, and I have been matched with my Big Sister Lisa since 2017. I’m a freshman in high school and participate in Technical Theater. My favorite color is yellow, because it’s a happy color that reminds me of summer and sunlight. Summer is my favorite season because it’s not cold outside, and there is way more stuff to do. When I have free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, getting ice cream from McDonald’s, going to the library, and exploring the cool shops downtown!
Being a young person in America is both scary and fun. It’s scary to hear about all the gun violence that’s happening in the city, especially what is happening downtown. That’s why I think it’s important to always be aware of your surroundings and always stay with a group when you’re walking around.
At the same time, it’s really fun to be young in America. There’s so much to see and so many new things I get to experience for the first time. My Big Sister recently took me to Portillo’s for the first time, and I loved it. The food was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the way the employees rhyme when they give you the food.
Lately I’ve been enjoying seeing all the beautiful buildings, statues, and artwork downtown. It made me happy to see the Christmas lights strung up in the circle. I haven’t been able to see them for the last few years because of Covid, and seeing the lights reminded me of how much I used to love going to Yuletide every year with my Big Sister.
Something we can all do to play a part in making a change is reduce the amount of pollution that we create. There are lots of simple things that we can do, like recycling and picking up litter, to reduce pollution and create a healthier planet.
