Every year, BBBSCI inducts a new Alumni Hall of Fame Class – a celebration of mentoring relationships and friendships that have spanned more than 50 years.
Little Sister Jasmine Pittman and Big Sister Latrice Watson were matched in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana program from 2008 to 2014. Despite graduating from our program over 10 years ago, the relationship between Latrice and Jasmine has remained a constant source of support for the pair.
When reflecting on their time together in the program, Jasmine recalls that much of their time was spent working on her schoolwork. Oftentimes, Latrice would take Jasmine to the library to study, work on her reading skills, and, of course, share some laughs together! Looking back, Jasmine says that these library trips were one of her favorite things to do with Latrice.
For Latrice, watching Jasmine achieve her goals has been such a special experience.
“The most significant memory for me as Jasmine’s Big was just watching her accomplish her goal of graduating high school. This was not an easy thing for her, and she was determined when others would give up. Jasmine is one of the strongest people I know. I have been with her through some of the most challenging seasons of my life, but her calls always remind me that there is good in the world.”

Post-program, both Latrice and Jasmine consider each other to be family. Jasmine says that she views Latrice as a mother figure, largely due to the support and encouragement Latrice gave her while she was finishing school. This support remains strong today, as Jasmine says she still reaches out to Latrice whenever she needs advice or encouragement.
The experience in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program has been so impactful for Latrice that it influenced her career choices. Latrice worked with volunteers and in mentoring programs for many years due to the positive impact she saw mentorship have on both Jasmine and herself.
Today, Jasmine is enjoying her job working as a security guard for events, which allows her to travel a lot. Latrice is incredibly proud of Jasmine’s achievements and is excited to see what else she will accomplish. Despite a challenging childhood, Jasmine has made something of herself, which fills Latrice with pride.
