TAKE THE FIRST STEP.

We do not need to create potential, we just need to defend it. Kids in our community are waiting for mentors who will stand with them to defend, ignite, and empower their potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters exists to create positive change in our community by matching youth with Bigs to build powerful friendships. Complete the quick form below to sign up. After you complete this form, a member of our staff will contact you within 2-3 business days.*

To become a Big, you must be at least 19 years of age and agree to meet with a child 4-6 hours per month for 1 year.

If you have questions or are open to sharing space in your place of work or organizations you're involved in to help recruit Bigs, contact Tabitha Sloane, Volunteer Outreach & Engagement Coordinator, at tsloane@bbbsci.org or 317.662.4989.

HOW OFTEN DO BIGS AND LITTLES GET TOGETHER?

We ask Bigs and Littles to see each other approximately 2 - 4 times a month, or 4-6 hours per month.

WHAT SUPPORT IS PROVIDED TO OUR MATCH?

Once you are matched with your Little, you will be assigned a Mentoring Relationship Specialist. This professional staff member will be present the first time you meet your Little and their parent/guardian. They will be available to provide support throughout the lifetime of your match relationship.  Your Mentor Relationship Specialist will be in regular contact with you, providing ideas for activities, guidance and coaching tips, and feedback on how you are making a difference.

DO THE PARENT/GUARDIAN(S) AND CHILDREN WANT TO BE IN THE PROGRAM?

Yes! Parent/guardians that enroll their children in the BBBSCI program want the very best for their children. They see the benefits of introducing another caring adult role model in the life of their child.  BBBSCI only enrolls youth who want the program, so 100% of the youth enrolled are ready and excited about being matched.

HOW AM I MATCHED?

During your interview, you will be asked a series of questions about yourself and match preferences you might have.  This helps guide us as we look for the best fit for you.  We do match all Bigs with same gender identifying Littles, ideally within 20 minutes from their home or work.  Our Enrollment and Matching team looks at interests, personalities, experiences, goals, and specific preferences each party may have.

WHAT IS A BIG COUPLE OR BIG FRIEND?

A Big Couple is a pair of Bigs who are in a 2+ year romantic relationship that want to be matched together to the same Little.  Big Couples do not have to be married.  Big Friends are two individuals who have been "friends" for a minimum of 2 years and want to be matched together to the same Little.  These options are great opportunities for couples or friends that would prefer a shared experience as opposed to each of them having a Little of their own.

HOW LONG DOES A MATCH LAST?

We ask for a minimum commitment of one year for each match we make. Matches can remain active through elementary, middle and high school. Bigs and Littles officially complete our program once the Little graduates from high school. Some of our friendships end up lasting a lifetime!
